Squadron Leader - Retd.
18 October 1928 - 24 August 2008

This was Dads day.

John Bourn Flowers

Saying "goodbye" to Dad. A special collection of Dads relatives and friends and caring people attended the service at Guildford Crematorium on 15 September 2008 to pay tribute and to say goodbye to a much loved father and man. Each of Johns grand children laid a single white rose with their own personal message on Dads Coffin which was draped with an RAF flag and Squadron Leader hat. Dad would have had his divorce granted on this date in Guildford and so this was a sad but also a truly fitting date. It was also Battle of Britain day.

Donations:
Donations, if desired, in aid of THE FRIENDS OF SYDENHURST. (MINIBUS APPEAL) The minibus was of huge importance to Dad as it used to bring him to lunch club, into the heart of the community of Chiddingfold and this also marked the beginning of his weekends with his family. The Friends are raising money to replace the old minibus which will continue to give outings and maintain the important link with this embracing community for many years to come. Contact details, and please indicate what the payment is for - such as "John Bourn minibus": Sydenhurst Residential Care Home, Mill Lane, Chiddingfold, Surrey GU8 4SJ Tel. 01428 683124.

Sydenhurst is very much part of the local community in Chiddingfold and has developed close relationships in particular with the Chiddingfold Village Association, King Edwards School, the United Church and the Women's Institute. Dad enjoyed his time there and made some great friends with other residents and the staff.

Chiddingfold and John Bourn

Chiddingfold: Dad loved the village and those he met as he joined in with village life. A huge thank you to those who helped to keep Dads funeral for those who were invited. Also thanks to the local police officers who also helped to let Dads true family and friends say "farewell" in peace. We also thank the wonderful staff at Guildford crematorium and to Mullard Funerals (121-123 High Street GU7 1AQ)

Finally....The funeral arrangements were amended at short notice and the family say "thank you" to those who helped us grieve for our father in peace and without distraction. We think dad would have had a quiet smile to himself. There were young and old present and they needed to say "goodbye" without fear of any unwanted and unwelcome interruption. It was a beautiful service of a truly deserving man. There were many tears of sorrow - but they were shed as a family and in privacy. "Thank you".

It seems no one likes a bully.

God bless you dad, may you now rest in peace -- we will always love you. xxx.
